Overview
Peter Magnuson is a commercial litigator and legal strategist. He defends clients in litigation across the country, particularly in consumer class actions, securities and corporate-related disputes, and appellate matters. He also represents clients in the sports industry, where he has defended major sports leagues in high-stakes litigation both at the trial and appellate levels.
Consumer Class Actions
Peter defends clients in class actions arising under the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) and in Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) investigations involving RESPA issues. He also advises clients on RESPA compliance to avoid disputes before they arise.
Peter also opposes class actions arising under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), helping clients obtain summary judgment, defeat class certification and obtain favorable individual settlements. In addition, he has represented clients sued under a variety of state consumer-fraud and other consumer-protection statutes.
Other Commercial Matters
Peter represents clients in a variety of other commercial disputes in both state and federal courts and at both the trial and appellate levels. He litigates claims arising under federal securities laws, and he represents companies in Securities and Exchange Commission investigations.
Peter also helps companies protect their trade secrets, having litigated complex trade-secret and non-compete matters in both federal and state courts.
Sports Law
Peter has significant experience in the sports industry, where he has represented the National Football League and the National Hockey League against suits brought by former players.
