Overview

American Indian tribes and organizations that do business with them have a strong advocate in Faegre Drinker's long-standing, nationwide Indian law practice. We have worked on tribal financings totaling more than $50 billion and involving more than 120 tribes in 21 states.

We use a deep understanding of Federal Indian Law and a practical approach to help clients surmount the economic, financing and gaming challenges facing Indian Country. Our team represents Native American tribes, wholly owned tribal entities and individual tribal members in matters arising from land-rights claims, contract disputes and taxation disputes. We have extensive experience helping tribes take land into trust and advising clients on matters involving sovereign immunity, jurisdiction, the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). Throughout the years, we have regularly interfaced with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) and state-level gaming regulators and can guide you through their processes.

Our team brings full-scale legal services with a breadth of experience in land determinations, leases, gaming compliance and tribal gaming commission matters, environmental law and regulations, taxation, federal recognition, labor and employment matters, construction matters, energy projects, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and health law matters.
