Miko Hernandez of FaegreBD Named to Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40

Miko E. Hernandez of Faegre Baker Daniels LLP has been recognized as one of the nation's top 40 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) legal professionals under the age of 40 by the National LGBT Bar Association.

The Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 awards recognize LGBT legal professionals who have distinguished themselves in their field and have demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBT equality.

Hernandez focuses her practice in Native American financing and other structured finance transactions. She represents both tribes and financial institutions in a range of transactions, including matters involving tribal, state and federal gaming laws for tribal gaming operations. Hernandez has counseled on numerous multimillion-dollar transactions to finance gaming facilities, government centers and resorts, but she has also advised on many small matters that have truly impacted tribes, including financing to fund the building of a much-needed grocery store on a reservation.

An ardent supporter of LGBT equality, Hernandez is a visible leader of FaegreBD's LGBT Lawyers Affinity Group, which provides a supportive atmosphere and peer resources for LGBT attorneys. The group partnered with Minnesota Lawyers United for All Families and Lavender Law to protest against a 2012 proposed Minnesota constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. She is active in efforts to recruit LGBT lawyers to the firm and has mentored many young LGBT associates at FaegreBD and law students of color through Twin Cities Diversity in Practice.

Hernandez and the other 2013 Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 honorees were recognized at an awards luncheon during the Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair on August 24, 2013.
