Joie C. Hand



Joie Hand counsels clients in a range of industries facing all stages of litigation at both the state and federal level. Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, antitrust, and white-collar crime defense.

Joie practices all aspects of civil litigation, including written and oral advocacy, discovery, motions practice and trial preparation. She also represents clients in government investigations, including False Claims Act matters and antitrust investigations.

During law school, Joie served the Student Bar Association as the chair of the London Programme and later as a member of the Career Development Office Committee. Joie also served as a vice president of the Black Law Students Association and a senior article editor for the Journal of International and Comparative Law. In her final semester at Notre Dame, she externed in the Athletics Compliance Office.

  • Represented a single parent in a custody hearing and home foreclosure litigation in connection with the D.C. Legal Aid Society
  • Conducted intake screening for legal matters through the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington
  • Participated in Election Protection to provide non-partisan support and information to voters
  • As a summer associate, contributed to the team representing five Native American individuals seeking cancellation of the federal trademark registrations used by the Washington, D.C. professional football team
