Kelly J. Fermoyle

Associate

Overview

As a firmware engineer-turned-attorney, Kelly Fermoyle combines a rock-solid technical background with deep legal knowledge to define and fulfill clients’ intellectual property litigation needs. A registered patent attorney, Kelly partners with clients to litigate patent cases and other complex business matters in all phases of litigation, including jury trials and appeals.

Past Experience

Kelly rejoined Faegre Drinker after clerking for Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Cowan Wright of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. During his clerkship, Kelly gained valuable insight into court proceedings and judicial preferences. Kelly broke into law with a clerkship at a boutique intellectual property firm in Minneapolis and an externship with Chief Judge John R. Tunheim of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.

Before commencing a career in law, Kelly worked as a firmware engineer for Seagate Technology, the world’s second-largest manufacturer of hard drives, and as an intern for Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Personal Interests

Outside of his legal practice, Kelly stays active through practicing (and sometimes teaching) yoga and running marathons. He has finished in the top 50 in the Boston Marathon and twice in the top 25 in the Twin Cities Marathon. He was an NCAA Division III All-American in cross-country and track and field.
