Ilene Froom Discusses Market Volatility in Banking Industry With Risk.net

Risk.net turned to investment management partner Ilene Froom to discuss how banks are updating procedures as result of tariff-driven market volatility. 

The article discussed that many banks are seeking out legal counsel to tighten up internal playbooks due to frequent, sometimes contradictory, tariff announcements. Froom noted that both buyers and sellers have been adjusting documentation procedures as a result of increasing market volatility. Froom said this can result in longer wait times and sensitivity to risks, even if both sides are creditworthy. 

“Based on how the documentation addresses certain trade terms, it could have a huge economic consequence on what you have to pay or deliver or receive,” Froom said. “On the other hand, certain parties want to get documentation in place more quickly so that they can trade due to concerns about changing market volatility.”
