Plowing Through Distress: Restructuring Options for Farms and Agribusinesses

Finance and restructuring partner Mike Stewart co-led a panel at the 2026 Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute 52nd Annual Seminar to examine the financial and operational pressures on agriculture companies in face of on-going market volatility, including the effects of tariffs and resulting impacts on export markets and commodity pricing.

The session explored restructuring and liquidation options for farms and agribusinesses, including chapter 11 and chapter 12 bankruptcy, out-of-court workouts, and consensual wind-downs. The panelists also discussed how these tools interact with seasonal cash flows, government support programs, and secured lenders’ goals and potential enforcement options.
