Faegre Drinker Grows Customs & International Trade Practice in Washington, D.C., Welcoming Prominent Trade Enforcement Partner Daniel Wilson

Faegre Drinker announced today that Daniel Wilson has joined the firm’s customs and international trade team and government and regulatory group as a partner in Washington, D.C.  Before joining Faegre Drinker, Wilson was a partner at a national law firm.

A tenured and versatile litigator, Wilson counsels clients facing international trade remedy proceedings and related enforcement matters. He has served as first chair in complex administrative proceedings before the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission, as well as in appeals before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Wilson works to guide clients through high-stakes remedy enforcement actions before U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and he has earned recognition for bringing practical and creative advice to international trade and customs strategy.

“Dan’s experience in leading intricate defense before international trade courts is second-to-none, and his knack for developing innovative strategies will be a welcome benefit to clients navigating the ever-shifting trade landscape,” said Scott Chinn, leader of the firm’s government and regulatory group. “Whether facing enforcement proceedings or trade disputes, Dan will be able to offer an array of resources and insider-experience to clients, and we’re grateful to have him join the firm.”

Wilson’s practice focuses on antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings and global “safeguard” investigations. He has successfully represented foreign exporters and manufacturers in achieving significant reductions — or even outright elimination — of duty liability in the clean energy, home appliance, consumer products, and heavy industry sectors. Wilson frequently is called upon to advise companies on tariff mitigation strategy and has analyzed trade implications for international mergers and acquisitions. Wilson also assists clients in engaging with stakeholders within the executive and legislative branches on trade policy matters.

“More and more, companies are turning to law firms for sound counsel and a creative strategy to help alleviate risks resulting from tariffs; Dan has a proven track-record of doing just that,” said Maureen Donahue Hardwick, leader of the Washington, D.C. office. “Often called upon for his thought-leadership in his field, Dan’s experience is a great addition for our clients navigating the trade process.”

In addition to representing international clients, Wilson maintains a broad pro bono practice, with a focus on providing legal services to vulnerable and underserved populations. He has served as counsel for over 100 senior citizens in tort litigation arising from a fire that destroyed a public housing complex in Washington, D.C. and has represented victims of human trafficking and domestic abuse before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in immigration proceedings.

Wilson earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and Juris Doctor from UC Law San Francisco, formerly known as UC Hastings.

From multinational corporations with complex supply chains and global investments to small businesses looking to grow and manage operations on an international scale, Faegre Drinker’s customs and international trade team provides clients with experienced regulatory, policy and compliance counsel needed to navigate the evolving international trade landscape and to pursue opportunities in the global marketplace with confidence. With professionals who are authorities in import compliance, export controls, trade sanctions, national security, trade remedies and international trade policy, the group advises on a wide variety of regulatory, policy and compliance matters.
