Overview

With two decades of military experience, Charles Westerhaus brings a uniquely informed perspective to Faegre Drinker’s privacy, cybersecurity and data strategy practice.

During his service as a data privacy law clerk with the Indiana Office of the Attorney General, Charles worked on cases covering data breaches, data security policy and cybersecurity risk evaluation. His career with the Navy included service as an instructor naval flight officer, chief of flight operations, and most recently as an outreach officer at the National Reconnaissance Office, where he was recognized as Field Grade Officer of the Quarter twice in 2017 and in 2018. In addition to his CIPM, CIPP/US and CIPP/E certifications, Charles completed a M.S. in Cybersecurity Risk Management along with his J.D. During law school, Charles served as a judicial extern for Justice Steven H. David in the Indiana Supreme Court, conducting legal research and preparing criminal transfer memoranda. He also served as a judicial extern for Chief Judge Tanya Walton Pratt in the Southern District of Indiana, assisting with civil and criminal court matters.
