Overview

Katelyn VanDoorne helps clients navigate complex business disputes and government enforcement matters. Drawing on her trial experience, arbitration experience, federal clerkships, and her MBA, Katelyn approaches disputes with a practical understanding of clients' business objectives, helping them manage risk and resolve conflicts efficiently.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution

Katelyn is experienced in state and federal courts, and in the American Arbitration Association's International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR).

She supports clients through all stages of litigation, from early case assessment through trials and appeals. Katelyn has tried cases before judges and arbitration panels, handled cross-examination of key witnesses, and presented oral argument in both federal district court and state courts. She has prepared witnesses for deposition and trial and has drafted multiple successful dispositive motions and other pretrial motions.

Katelyn also has significant experience representing clients in response to government requests and inquiries. She has drafted successful white papers, given presentations to government agencies, and assisted in closing government investigations before enforcement recommendation.

Representative Experience

  • Third chair in the first virtual trial in the Supreme Court of New York, which resulted in a $25 million judgment in favor of a glass manufacturing client.
  • Lead drafter of all filings in an arbitration involving property in Mexico before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, resulting in a US$17 million award in favor of an infrastructure management client.
  • Managed 10 Illinois state court lawsuits filed against a manufacturer of hair relaxer products and its parent company and assisted with a federal multidistrict litigation matter involving the same clients.
  • Represented a multinational pharmaceutical company in response to a joint investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding potential insider trading, including preparing and presenting witnesses.
  • Represented and advised public companies, investment advisers, and broker-dealers in their responses to requests from SEC and DOJ.

Judicial Clerkships

Katelyn has served as a clerk to two judges in the Northern District of Illinois: District Judge Jeffrey I. Cummings and Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez. During her clerkships, Katelyn conducted extensive legal research and analysis, drafted judicial orders and opinions, and assisted the judges in courtroom proceedings including pretrial conferences, motion sessions, status hearings, and trials.
