Overview

Brian Coleman represents a wide range of Fortune 500 and other corporate clients in complex commercial litigation, with a particular focus on intellectual property disputes. He is highly regarded for his skill in trademark, trade dress and copyright claims. Brian’s practice also extends to professional liability insurance disputes, ERISA litigation and business disputes nationwide.

Trademarks and Other Intellectual Property Disputes

Brian prosecutes and defends trademark infringement and dilution claims, as well as claims for trade dress and copyright infringement, false advertising, unfair competition, licensing and trade secrets disputes. He regularly litigates on behalf of clients in federal courts and handles inter partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and other administrative agencies.

Professional Liability Insurance and ERISA Litigation

Insurers value Brian’s comprehensive and detailed knowledge of all aspects of professional liability insurance coverage law, particularly in D&O, E&O and EPL coverage disputes. Brian also has significant experience litigating ERISA benefits and fiduciary-related claims on behalf of insurers. Brian has represented carriers in dozens of federal and state courts, both trial and appellate level. 

Complex Commercial Litigation

Brian has extensive knowledge of the federal and state courts of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia and has litigated a wide assortment of complex commercial disputes in the local federal and state courts. These have included dozens of construction disputes, various intracorporate disputes, the defense of attorney malpractice claims, and various contract and tort claims.

Prior to joining the firm, Brian served as a law clerk to the Honorable Frank E. Schwelb of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals for the 1997-98 term.
