Overview

Elizabeth Carter is a trial lawyer who defends businesses in court. She assists clients in a variety of areas including contract disputes, consumer debt collection claims and foodborne illness matters. She has been part of numerous multimillion dollar trials in federal and state court, as well as international arbitration before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR).

Commercial Disputes

Elizabeth frequently represents clients in commercial disputes involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraudulent misrepresentation, tortious interference and misappropriation of trade secrets. Elizabeth has represented clients from a wide range of industries including banking and finance, franchising, credit card processing, cable, and pipeline.

Consumer Debt Collection

Elizabeth defends international banking clients in consumer litigation involving the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

Foodborne Illness Litigation

In representing retailers in litigation stemming from recalls and foodborne illness outbreaks, Elizabeth works closely with expert witnesses to determine the clients’ best defense to obtain a favorable settlement or victory at trial.

Commercial Property Tax Appeals

Elizabeth has represented clients in more than 50 commercial property tax appeals across the state of Iowa. Her representation includes appeals to district courts and the Iowa Property Assessment Appeal Board (PAAB).

Appeals

She has appellate experience before the Federal, Seventh and Eighth Circuits, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.

Previous Experience

Before joining the firm, Elizabeth practiced pharmaceutical patent litigation at Winston & Strawn LLP in Chicago.

Personal Interests

Elizabeth loves to garden, cook, read and spend time with her husband Jared, identical twin daughters Mary and Lily, and nearly identical twin dogs Daisy and Lucy.
