Overview
Jamis Barcott counsels clients in finance and restructuring matters. He has litigated more than 50 cases across a range of industries, including media, technology, software, manufacturing, and health care.
Finance & Bankruptcy Litigation
Jamis’ practice focuses on federal Indian law litigation, as well as complex commercial litigation, including unfair competition, false advertising, product liability, and trade secrets. He is also experienced in helping clients navigate U.S. Department of Justice and internal investigations.
He has significant primary drafter experience on motions filed in federal court and is highly experienced at filing documents under seal. Jamis prepares witnesses for federal depositions and has appeared as both lead taking and defending attorney. He also has managed e-discovery on cases involving hundreds of custodians and more than 5 million documents.
Prior Experience
Jamis grew up on the Tulalip Tribes Reservation in Washington State, which gave him a strong commitment to community, leading to his decision to enter the legal profession and help others. Before moving to Minneapolis, Jamis was a litigation associate at an Am Law 50 firm in San Francisco, where he represented clients in federal, state, and international antitrust matters including civil litigation, DOJ civil conduct investigations, and criminal enforcement actions.
Personal Interests
Jamis enjoys skateboarding, rock climbing, and craft breweries. In his free time, Jamis enjoys watching the Seattle Mariners miss the playoffs with his chihuahua Figgy.

Jamis has represented Indian children in guardianship hearings to enforce the Indian Child Welfare Act and advised several clients on obtaining enrollment in tribes in Arizona, California, and New Mexico. He has also represented victims of domestic violence in restraining order hearings in San Mateo County, California.
