PatentConnect, Volunteer Attorneys Aid ‘Backyard’ Inventors

The Indiana Lawyer

In an article for The Indiana Lawyer, associates Molly Madden and Cassidy Segura Clouse spotlight PatentConnect, a pro bono initiative, based out of Indiana University Maurer School of Law Center for Intellectual Property Research, that connects “backyard” inventors in Indiana and Kentucky with volunteer attorneys who provide patent-related services.

Madden and Clouse encourage intellectual property attorneys to get involved with PatentConnect, emphasizing the important role pro bono services play in helping aspiring inventors obtain patent protection despite financial barriers.

“In a time where technology is a part of every conversation, there is a particular need to help those who could not otherwise participate in the intellectual property system do so through free legal counsel in order to gain validity, recognition, and monetary benefit,” the authors note.
