Drinker Biddle Lawyers Contribute to PLI’s 2020 Telecommunications Law Answer Book

Each year since 2014, a range of Drinker Biddle attorneys have written and updated the Practising Law Institute (PLI) Telecommunications Law Answer Book, a 600-plus page comprehensive overview of the legal and regulatory issues faced by the telecommunications industry.

Washington, D.C. communications, media and telecommunications partner Laura Phillips serves as the annual publication’s editor. Other contributors include partners Nate Bolin, Darren Cahr, Michael Daly, Andrew Kassner, Joanne Lewers; counsels Katherine Armstrong, Marsha Indych; and associates Cynthia Irani, Qiusi Newcom, Jeremiah Posedel and Reeya Thakrar.

Presented in an easy-to-read Q&A format, the Telecommunications Law Answer Book provides a comprehensive overview of the issues faced by practitioners, corporate general counsel and senior management, and other professionals in many areas of the telecommunications industry.

Coverage of the latest developments in the ever-evolving field of telecommunications includes:

  • The duties and obligations of entities that provide telecommunications services
  • The policy goals behind the Communications Act of 1934 and Telecommunications Act of 1996 including streamlining of telecom equipment siting for 5G
  • Foreign ownership in communications providers and foreign trade considerations in telecommunications equipment and software
  • FCC regulation of the radio and television spectrum, including rules about ownership of broadcast stations and cable systems
  • Why social media regulation is different from other media, and why the legal and practical analysis often differ from traditional advertising and broadcast outlets
  • “Accessibility by design,” for communications products and services to allow their use by those with cognitive or physical disabilities
  • The FCC enforcement process
  • The rules regulating customer relationships and how political advertising should be handled

The Telecommunications Law Answer Book also provides a comprehensive overview of the recent Congressional, FCC, and state initiatives on data privacy and security.
