Securities Arbitration 2018

Overview

Florham Park partners Sandy Grannum and Tracey Salmon-Smith, along with associate Jamie Helman, will participate in the Practising Law Institute’s (PLI) full-day program on “Securities Arbitration 2018” on September 26, 2018.

Sandy will chair the program, and also moderate panel discussions on “Know When to Hold Them, Know When to Show Them: A Practicum on the Use of Experts and Their Examination “and “Staying Ahead of the Curve: Hot Topics in Securities Arbitration and Future Trends in 2018.” Partner Tracey will lead the conversation on “Discovery – How Much is Too Much,” and be joined by associate Jamie Helman.

In “Discovery – How Much is Too Much,” Tracey and Jamie will take a look at discovery issues within the FINRA arbitration forum. Panelists will discuss determining what you need, what you want, and what issues or challenges could potentially throw you off course.

The session on “Know When to Hold Them, Know When to Show Them: A Practicum on the Use of Experts and Their Examination” provides practical advice for the use of experts in arbitration. Topics include the timing of retaining an expert, when to have an expert create a report and/or testify, and the do’s and don’ts of cross-examination.

Sandy will help close out the day with “Staying Ahead of the Curve: Hot Topics in Securities Arbitration and Future Trends in 2018. Panelists will explore trends in case law; proposed FINRA regulations; expungement and group arbitration award enforcement; reactions of industry and public investor advocates to possible changes; and what might be on the horizon for 2019.
