Faegre Drinker announced today that Jovana Crnčević has joined the firm’s litigation practice as a partner in the New York office. Crnčević joins from an international law firm where she was special counsel in the litigation and arbitration team.
Crnčević represents clients in the resolution of high-stakes disputes ranging from complex international matters to commercial litigation in federal and state courts. She is deeply versed in handling multijurisdictional cases pending before domestic and international courts and arbitral tribunals, including proceedings under major arbitration rules such as AAA-ICDR, JAMS, ICC, and UNCITRAL, as well as ad hoc arbitrations. She also advises investors and states in investment treaty disputes under ICSID and other institutions, guiding clients from the initiation of arbitration to enforcement of awards before US courts. Her experience spans sectors including energy, technology, aviation, mining, hospitality, transportation, luxury goods, financial services, and real estate.
“Jovana’s strong background in international arbitration will be an invaluable asset to our clients navigating complex cross-border disputes, particularly amid today’s volatile global trade and regulatory environment,” said Bill Connolly, leader of the firm’s litigation group. “Her deep experience enhances our ability to support clients across both US and international litigation, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the team as we continue to expand our global capabilities.”
Crnčević also advises on various public international matters such as the interpretation and application of treaties, sovereign immunity, the act-of-state doctrine, jurisdictional issues, investment and trade law, law of the sea, human rights, and sanctions. In this context, she has represented and advised states and state-owned entities with respect to contentious treaty, investment, and trade-related disputes. Crnčević represents clients in US federal and state courts on disputes that span breach of contract, business torts, trademark, unfair competition, and trade secret misappropriation matters.
“Jovana’s breadth of experience makes her a tremendous resource for our clients and a natural fit for our New York office, situated in a critical global hub for high-stakes, multijurisdictional matters,” said Erika Collins, leader of the firm’s New York office. “Her thorough understanding of major arbitral rules and her ability to guide clients from the initiation of a dispute through the enforcement of awards adds fantastic depth to our team, and we are excited to welcome her.”
Crnčević is deeply committed to an active pro bono practice, including representation and advice on international human rights law and international criminal law. She has acted for victims of crimes against humanity in connection with proceedings at the International Criminal Court, advised a nongovernmental organization on international fair trial standards, and represented individuals seeking asylum in the United States.
Crnčević earned her Bachelor of Arts from University of Chicago and her Juris Doctor and LLM in International and Comparative Law from Cornell Law School.
