Indiana Supreme Court Appoints Carl Pebworth to Newly Established Coalition for Court Access

The Indiana Supreme Court has appointed Carl Pebworth, FaegreBD partner, to the newly established Coalition for Court Access.

The Coalition is a 17-person group charged with managing all Supreme Court-related programs designed to provide legal aid to those with limited financial resources. The Coalition will help implement a coordinated plan to deliver legal aid to Indiana residents in need.

The Coalition will replace three existing Supreme Court-related organizations addressing civil legal assistance to low-income Indiana residents, consolidating the Indiana Pro Bono Commission, the Indiana Commission to Expand Access to Civil Legal Services and the Indiana Supreme Court Committee on Unrepresented Litigants. Judges, law school representatives, and Indiana State Bar Association and Foundation members comprise the Coalition.

Previously, Pebworth served two three-year terms on the Indiana Pro Bono Commission and then served on the Indiana Commission to Expand Access to Civil Legal Services as well as serving as the chair of the Indiana State Bar Association pro bono committee.

Pebworth has an active pro bono practice through which he has represented many individuals and organizations throughout his career with an emphasis on advocacy in support of neighborhood and community development, the use and employment of youth as resources in expanding access to justice, and in developing programs to facilitate expungement of criminal records under Indiana’s Second Chance law. He also represents and advises nonprofit organizations as part of his practice, and has been involved in civic, community and justice-related activities including leadership roles with the Indianapolis Parks Foundation, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Community Organizations Legal Assistance Project, Neighborhood Advocacy Coalition, the Maple Road Alliance and the Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association.
