25 Associates Join Faegre Baker Daniels in 10 Practices

Twenty-five new lawyers have joined Faegre Baker Daniels as associates in 10 practices, across nine of the firm's U.S. and international offices.

Associates are joining the firm's locations in Boulder and Denver, Colo.; Chicago, Ill.; Des Moines, Iowa; Fort Wayne, Indianapolis and South Bend, Ind.; Minneapolis, Minn.; and London, U.K.

The additions include one new lawyer in the benefits and executive compensation practice, four in business litigation, one in construction and real estate litigation, five in corporate, two in finance and restructuring, one in insurance, five in intellectual property, one in labor and employment, four in product liability and environmental, and one in real estate.

All of the new lawyers have legal experience as law clerks, summer associates, legal interns or judicial externs.

Boulder

Elena Simion practices corporate law. She earned a law degree Order of the Coif from the University of Colorado Law School in 2014 and a bachelor's degree in mathematics cum laude from South Dakota State University in 2009. Before attending law school, Simion was a business analyst with Fishback Financial Corporation.

Chicago

Tiffany Chan is a corporate lawyer. She received her law degree magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2014. Chan earned a bachelor's degree in accountancy and finance from the University of Illinois in 2011. She is a registered CPA.

Joaquin Hernandez practices patent law as part of FaegreBD's intellectual property group. He received a law degree with an intellectual property certificate cum laude from the Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2014, and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering summa cum laude from Boston University in 1996. Hernandez is a registered patent agent. Before his legal career, he was a firmware engineer with Raytheon Company and DaVinci Systems, among other companies.

Denver

Sean Metherell focuses on construction law and real estate litigation. In 2014, he received a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, a master of bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and a certificate in management from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. Metherell received a bachelor's degree in business administration magna cum laude from Pacific Union College in 2005. Before his legal career, Metherell was a licensed financial advisor and oversaw major gifts at a cancer center.

Des Moines

Lewis Field focuses on product liability and environmental matters, particularly in the food and agriculture industries. He received a law degree Order of the Coif from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2014. Field earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 2011.

Fort Wayne

Jessica Hockemeyer is a member of the firm's finance and restructuring practice. She earned her law degree from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 2014, while simultaneously earning an M.B.A. in accounting from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. Hockemeyer received a bachelor's degree in business and finance from Indiana University Fort Wayne in 2010.

Indianapolis

Nicholas Alford is a member of FaegreBD's product liability and environmental team. Alford earned a law degree magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2014 and a bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 2006. Before becoming a lawyer, he served with the U.S. Peace Corps in Togo, Africa, for two years and worked for various legal service agencies.

Matthew Burkhart practices with FaegreBD's business litigation team. He earned a law degree magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2014 and a bachelor's degree from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 2011.

Tyler Cho is an intellectual property lawyer who focuses on patent matters. He received a law degree cum laude from The John Marshall Law School in 2014, a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Queen's University in 2009 and a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Queen's University in 2003. Before attending law school, Cho was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto.

Daniel Lewallen practices with FaegreBD's insurance team. He received a law degree summa cum laude from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 2014. Lewallen earned a bachelor's degree in political science summa cum laude from Valparaiso University in 2011.

Juliana Yanez is a member of FaegreBD's business litigation team. She received a law degree cum laude from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2014 and a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Stanford University in 2009. Before law school, she worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development and with a health care organization.

London

Douglas Badder is a corporate lawyer. He received a postgraduate diploma in legal practice from BPP University in 2011. Badder earned a master of laws degree, specializing in international business law, from University College London in 2010 and a bachelor of laws degree from University College London in 2008.

Minneapolis

Daniel Barta is a registered patent lawyer who practices with the intellectual property group. He received a law degree magna cum laude from the William Mitchell College of Law in 2014 and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2008. Before law school, Barta worked for 3M as an engineer.

Marjan Batchelor practices business litigation. She received a law degree with a concentration in litigation and dispute resolution from Boston University School of Law in 2013. Batchelor earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Minnesota in 2008 and worked as a home mortgage auditor at Wells Fargo after graduation. Batchelor clerked with Judge Alan Page in the Minnesota Supreme Court after law school.

William Brunnquell practices with the firm's finance and restructuring team. He received a law degree cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2014 and a bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Bates College in 2010.

Bradley Englesma is a member of the firm's business litigation team. He earned a law degree cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law in 2014 and a bachelor's degree in peace and conflict studies from Colgate University in 2007. Before law school, Engelsma was a health specialist with the Peace Corps in El Salvador.

Bethany Gullman practices with FaegreBD's product liability and environmental team. She received her law degree Order of the Coif in 2014 from George Washington University Law School. Gullman earned her bachelor's degree summa cum laude from Liberty University in 2009. She is a former high school language arts teacher.

Ariel Howe is an intellectual property litigator. She received a law degree magna cum laude from the William Mitchell College of Law in 2014 and a bachelor's degree in chemistry with American Chemical Society certification from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in 2006. Before law school, Howe worked in data review and laboratory document approval at Upsher-Smith Laboratories.

Steven Mangold is a real estate lawyer. He earned a law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2014 and a bachelor's degree in history from Dordt College in 2011.

Bethany Mihalik focuses on intellectual property litigation. She received a law degree Order of the Coif from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2014. Mihalik earned bachelor's degrees in biology and political science from the University of Florida in 2010. Before her legal career, she worked in procurement for BASF.

Mary St. Marie practices in the corporate group. She received a law degree summa cum laude from The John Marshall Law School in 2014 and a master's degree in philosophy from Georgia State University in 2011. She earned a bachelor's degree in German, English and philosophy summa cum laude from Marquette University in 2009.

Nicholas Teichen focuses on product liability and environmental matters. He earned his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 2014 and a bachelor's degree in journalism and French summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 2010. Before law school, Teichen taught middle school English in Wattrelos, France.

Thomas Trier is a member of FaegreBD's corporate group. He received a law degree cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2014. He earned a bachelor's of business administration, finance, investment and banking, and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin in 2010. Prior to law school, Trier was a financial analyst at General Mills.

Jabir Yusoff practices with FaegreBD's benefits and executive compensation team. He received a law degree from Duke University School of Law in 2014 and a bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Carleton College in 2011.

South Bend

Angela Johnson is a labor and employment lawyer. She earned a law degree cum laude from Notre Dame Law School in 2014. Additionally, Johnson received a bachelor's degree in political science from Indiana University South Bend in 2011.
