Amerigroup Iowa Maintains Government Contract

United States - Iowa

Amerigroup Iowa, Inc., an Anthem health insurance company, successfully maintained its piece of a three-year contract for Iowa's Medicaid managed-care program during a protest and appeals process. Our firm defended the $4.8 billion government contract throughout the protest and appeals process.

In 2015, Amerigroup was one of 11 companies to respond to the Iowa Department of Human Services' (DHS) request for proposals to provide health care coverage for more than 560,000 Iowans. The agency awarded a three-year contract to four companies, including Amerigroup and United Healthcare, another client. Three disappointed bidders protested the award decision. The agency affirmed its contract awards to three of the four successful bidders, including Amerigroup and United Health, but disqualified one. The protestors again appealed the agency's final decision in the Iowa District Court, and failed.
