Patents
Philip Ouweleen is focused on protecting the intellectual property of clients, particularly in patent litigation. He has experience in various stages of litigation, including pre-suit investigations, discovery and motion practice. Philip has supported intellectual property disputes in a variety of different jurisdictions, including district courts for the Third Circuit and the Ninth Circuit, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In addition, Philip has experience in the preparation and prosecution of mechanical utility and design patent applications, and he has advised clients on filing strategy and portfolio management.
Prior Experience
After earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Philip became a product engineer and, ultimately, a subject matter expert at Cummins, where he worked in fuel system design, validation and integration. Next, Philip bridged the gap between engineering and IP law at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where he also served as president of the Intellectual Property Association and as notes editor for the IP Theory law journal.
Personal Interests
In his free time, Philip enjoys automotive restoration and modification, high-performance driver education, photography, architectural design, and horology.
