Ella Mensah advises insurance companies and other insurance industry stakeholders to advance their business objectives with a particular focus on insurance-related transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, mutual insurance holding company transactions, corporate governance requirements, reinsurance transactions and Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) filings.

Prior Experience

Before joining the firm, Ella developed a broad foundation in intellectual property, corporate transactions, immigration law and international criminal law. As a student attorney in Washington University’s Intellectual Property Clinic, she advised startups and creators on IP strategy, prepared federal trademark filings, drafted responses to USPTO Office Actions, and reviewed licensing and ownership agreements.

Ella served as a summer associate with the firm in 2024. In this role, she supported cross-border corporate acquisitions through due-diligence tracking and closing preparation, conducted research for pro bono matters, and participated in client meetings.

During an externship with Legal Services NYC’s Immigration and Asylum Department, Ella assisted in developing litigation strategies for asylum cases, researched issues involving ICE misconduct, and drafted practical resources to help clients navigate the immigration system.

As a research assistant to Professor Leila Sadat, former special advisor to the International Criminal Court Prosecutor, Ella conducted extensive research on international criminal law, human rights and armed conflict, contributing to briefs and reports for potential use in international proceedings, while earlier roles with Saint Louis University and the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office provided additional experience supporting diverse communities and assisting individuals navigating complex institutional and legal processes.

Personal Interests

Outside of the office, Ella enjoys traveling the world and immersing herself in different cultures and art, as well as writing poetry, reading fiction, and spending time with friends and family.
