Overview
Ryan Cooney is an intellectual property litigator. He handles patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters in federal and state courts around the country. Beyond IP litigation, Ryan also resolves clients’ domain name disputes and helps them navigate data breach incidents.
Ryan’s background as an Air Force intelligence analyst means that he is skilled at efficiently managing discovery. It also gave him a passion for understanding—and breaking down—complex technologies. He has particular experience with medical devices and consumer products.
In January 2024, Ryan will begin a one-year clerkship with the Hon. Timothy M. Tymkovich at The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in Denver.
Prior Experience
Ryan was a 2020 summer associate with the firm. During law school, Ryan worked as a student attorney with the University of Colorado’s Entrepreneurial Law Clinic where he advised local companies on their IP and early-stage formation concerns. He also interned with the Hon. Richard L. Gabriel on the Colorado Supreme Court and at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver.
Prior to law school, Ryan served in the U.S. Air Force. Before that, he was a trip director and outdoor environmental education instructor at a YMCA camp in northern Wisconsin.
Personal Interests
Ryan spends his free time in the mountains with his family.
