Navigating Compliance With the Health Care Transparency Law
In the Indiana Lawyer article, “Navigating Compliance With the Health Care Transparency Law,” government and regulatory counsel Lacey Berkshire and business litigation associate Matthew Elliott explain the potential effects of House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1666 on health care entities in Indiana.
HEA 1666 requires major hospitals, insurers and other health systems to disclose detailed ownership information to state agencies like the Department of Health and Department of Insurance. The information could include certain identifying numbers for hospitals, as well as identifying information for individuals and entities with ownership interest, controlling interest, or private equity partners. The law also sets out penalties for failure to comply with the required disclosures, the authors note.
“Just a year after enacting Indiana’s Healthcare Transaction Notice Law, HEA 1666 represents Indiana’s continued evolution in health care regulation, emphasizing transparency and oversight,” the authors write.
