Lucid Episodes in People With Advanced Dementia: Characterizing Caregiver Reports to Advance Definition and Measurement of Episodes

Faegre Drinker Consulting principal Terry Frangiosa co-authored an article titled “Lucid Episodes in People with Advanced Dementia: Characterizing Caregiver Reports to Advance Definition and Measurement of Episodes” for The Gerontologist.

The article examines how lucid episodes (LEs), characterized by spontaneous and transient recovery of functional abilities, among people living with Alzheimer's is an under-studied issue. Due to the lack of understanding on LEs, standard definitional criteria are lacking, presenting challenges to research, the authors argued. In the article, the authors propose a framework for uniform labeling and operationalization of data for investigating LEs.
