Care Partner Evaluation of the Behaviors in the Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory

Faegre Drinker Consulting principal Terry Frangiosa co-authored an article titled “Care partner Evaluation of the Behaviors in the Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory” for Frontiers in Dementia.

The article explains that using the Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CMAI), a 29-item scale used to systematically assess the frequency and severity of agitation in older adults, can provide a clearer picture of the burden that family members caring for Alzheimer’s disease patients face.

“Considering the substantial care partner burden resulting from agitation behaviors, use of a tool like the CMAI by care partners and clinicians alike could help identify problems earlier in the hope of mitigating escalation to more severe outcomes for both patients and their care partners,” the authors concluded.
