In “Barriers to Transgender Health Care Lead Some To Embrace a Do-It-Yourself Approach,” NBC News spoke to government and regulatory partner Libby Baney about the risks of obtaining and administering medications without regulated pharmacies and licensed health care providers.
“U.S. consumers buying medications from online pharmacies rarely, if ever, receive exactly what they think they are ordering,” Baney explained. “The vast majority of products offered through online pharmacies are, at best, non-U.S. FDA-approved medicines and, more often, at worst, dangerous fakes.”
“Anytime that you have a product where people have either a legitimate medical need or perceived need, people will go online to find it outside the regulated supply chain,” Baney noted.
