Doing Well by Doing Good: Law Firm Leadership on Pro Bono

Indiana Lawyer

In a “Pro Bono Matters” column for Indiana Lawyer, Indianapolis office leader and antitrust group co-chair Kathy Osborn discussed the role and responsibility of law firms and attorneys to support pro bono and legal aid systems.

Osborn addressed the importance of service to others as a core value of Faegre Drinker and a key component of its culture. She also noted the commitment needed to develop meaningful partnerships with pro bono and legal aid nonprofit organizations, law schools and corporate clients.

Next, Osborn explained how pro bono work strengthens law firms by helping attract and retain talent, developing attorneys’ skills, connecting with colleagues and cultivating leadership opportunities. She further highlighted examples of how colleagues at Faegre Drinker have volunteered their time and talents.

In conclusion, Osborn stated, “A diverse pro bono program with strong firm leadership benefits the community and individual pro bono clients.”
