In “No Flood Insurance Following Hurricane Ian’s Impacts? Here Are Your Options,” WTSP, a news station in Tampa, Florida, turned to government and regulatory partner Libby Baney for her commentary on Florida’s property insurance market and how flood insurance is not required for all residents.
“People need to have flood insurance,” urged Baney. “It’s hard to remember that when you’re not in a floodplain, and if you’re not mapped in, and we have a problem with our maps, being Congress’, this spent many, many sessions talking about the need to update our maps.”
“Even if you’re not in a floodplain or even for not mapped in, you still need flood insurance because you just don’t know…where the storm is going to turn,” Baney said.
