Stacey Smiricky Quoted by XpertHR on Employer Actions in Light of Illinois Conceal and Carry Law
In July 2013, Illinois enacted the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, allowing individuals who meet certain qualifications to carry concealed firearms, XpertHR reported.
"'Employers who wish to take action now can post a sign four inches by six inches in size indicating that weapons are prohibited,'" said XpertHR, quoting a legal update by Stacey Smiricky of Faegre Baker Daniels. "'Employers can also begin drafting workplace policies stating weapons will not be permitted on the premises. Employers should be mindful, however, that the statute provides that employees must be permitted to carry a concealed firearm in his or her vehicle into the parking lot and store the firearm (or ammunition) in a case that completely conceals it within a locked vehicle or locked container out of plain view within the vehicle in the parking area.'"
