Considering ILPA Private Equity Principles

Philadelphia partners Josh Deringer and Doug Raymond, along with Berwyn partner Neill Haimm and Princeton associate John Emslie, authored a guest column on the IPLA Private Equity Principles for Law360. The Institutional Limited Partners Association is a voluntary organization dedicated to the interests of institutional limited partners in private equity funds. Its Principles, released September 2009, have received the endorsement of more than 100 of the largest and most influential institutional private equity investors. The IPLA has stated that the concepts contained in the Principles reflect its suggested best practices; their objective is to strengthen the basic “alignment of interests” value proposition in private equity. The article, “Considering ILPA Private Equity Principles,” discusses the impact of the Principles on the private equity fund space to date, and also their likely future effect. The article also outlines the more significant “Best Practices” offered by the IPLA.
