Faegre Baker Daniels Labor Lawyers Present Problem-Solving Approach
Indianapolis, IN
Overview
At the Indiana Chamber's 18th Annual Employment Law Seminar this month, Faegre Baker Daniels continued the same tradition it established in past years of leading the day-long event. The firm's lawyers embraced a problem-solving approach toward employment law issues, rather than focusing only on what employers cannot do under the law.
In six presentations to a statewide audience, the firm's labor and employment lawyers took a non-legalistic approach toward discussions of the federal and state employment laws, helping subscribers to the Chamber's Employment Law Handbook—which Faegre Baker Daniels lawyers have authored every year since the first edition in 1994—to use the publication as the pre-eminent layman's guide to employment law. Presenters and topics included:
- Joseph C. Pettygrove on "Documenting to Win: Preparing to Defend Unemployment Claims Before and After Discharge"
- Carol M. Wyatt on "Effective Management of Indiana's Worker's Compensation Claims"
- Stacey L. Smiricky on "Social Media in the Workplace"
- Scott W. Wright on "The World of Business Immigration Law: 2012 Update"
- Amanda L. Shelby on "Pre-Hire Policies and Practices"
- Brian R. Garrison on "The Scoop: Inside Perspectives on Right-to-Work and Other Hot Topics in Labor Law"
In many labor and employment situations, early advice of counsel may help employers address a problem proactively before it matures into a dangerous dispute—or it may allow employers to mitigate the consequences and expense of legal claims or threatened litigation—Faegre Baker Daniels lawyers emphasized during the seminar.
