Faegre Drinker announced today that Matthew McCullough has joined the firm’s intellectual property group in the San Francisco office. He joins from a global law firm where he was a partner in that firm’s intellectual property group.
McCullough represents clients in intellectual property litigation, with a particular focus on high-tech patent and trade secrets litigation involving cutting-edge technologies, such as AI, cloud services and infrastructure, telecom, and network security. With a background in computer engineering, McCullough thrives in high-tech cases that demand technical sophistication and attention to detail, where he excels at translating intricate technology into compelling legal arguments.
“Matt’s successful track record litigating complex patent and trade secrets cases sets him apart in the IP space,” said Jared Briant, leader of the firm’s intellectual property group. “His technical background gives him unique insight into the challenges our technology clients face and enables him to bring fresh ideas to help protect their valuable innovations. We’re excited to welcome Matt to the team, and his addition further strengthens the sophisticated, practical counsel we provide clients for their most challenging IP matters.”
McCullough has extensive experience in district courts, at the US Patent and Trademark Office, and at the International Trade Commission, delivering strategic counsel that safeguards clients' innovations and competitive edge. He argues critical motions at all stages and has obtained key victories such as exclusion of the opposing party’s expert and invalidating asserted patents. He also has experience helping clients navigate the complex forensic analysis and discovery that often plays a crucial role in high-tech trade secrets litigation.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Matt to the San Francisco office. As we continue to expand our litigation bench, Matt’s experience in complex patent and trade secrets disputes, particularly within the technology sector, will be a tremendous asset to our clients and their evolving needs,” said Cheryl Orr, San Francisco’s office leader.
McCullough earned his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan and his juris doctor from Harvard Law School, where he served as submissions manager for the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology.
