Ken Dort Article Published in First Chair

Chicago partner Ken Dort wrote an article for the 2013 issue of First Chair magazine titled, “Cloud Computing Considerations and Risks: An Overview.”

Ken’s article outlines the what, why and how of cloud computing -- an increasingly popular data storage model where data is stored and/or processed in a facility separate from that of the data owner.

While this shift from traditional data storage can prove convenient and cost effective, companies should be aware of the myriad data protection and legal issues that arise before at three distinct points: when making the move to a cloud, during the implementation process, and as cloud computing is being utilized.

Ken discusses these concerns in depth and notes that despite these risks, cloud computing is here to stay: “Having an understanding of the privacy issues, key players, and legal concerns that populate the landscape will help the prospective cloud customer to minimize these difficulties and to utilize the cloud to maximize that company’s return on this strategy.”
