Higher Education Institutions Work to Develop Classroom and Campus Recording Policies

North America - United States | North America | United States - Minnesota

With the increased use of technology in the classroom and the ease of audio and video recording, higher education institutions must consider the need for new or updated policies that govern the rights of and restrictions on students and faculty in recording classroom lectures and discussions, community expectations for recording in other campus contexts, as well as the appropriate use of such recordings.

Our firm is providing counsel to higher education institutions on how to devise policies that carefully navigate and balance a range of legal issues and questions, including the obligation to protect student privacy, the obligation to provide accommodations such as learning aids to students with disabilities, and the desire of faculty to protect their intellectual property and academic integrity.
