Protections to Prevent LGBTQ Harassment Implemented by School District After Settlement

North America - United States | North America | United States - Minnesota

Our firm worked for several years to address concerns about anti-gay policies and harassment of LGBTQ students in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, the largest school district in Minnesota. A sweeping settlement of this case was announced by the parties on March 6, 2012. The settlement included a consent decree that required the District to implement new protections designed to prevent harassment of students who are or perceived to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and gender non-conforming. The decree also included a comprehensive, systemic plan to counter and prevent future harassment in District education programs and activities and monitoring of the District by the U.S. Department of Justice for a period of five years.

Our pro bono legal team was named to the 2012 Minnesota Lawyer “Attorneys of the Year” list because of their leadership in the case.
