John Przypyszny Discusses Louisiana’s Push Into Accreditation Space With Times Picayune
Education partner John Przypyszny commented on Louisiana’s joining other states in a push to develop a new accrediting agency for public colleges and universities in an article for the Times Picayune.
Governor Jeff Landry will soon join states like Florida and Georgia in creating a new accreditation agency for universities following President Donald Trump’s comments that some accreditors have abused their authority in regard to diversity, equity and inclusion metrics.
“Accreditation is getting caught up in the culture wars,” Przypyszny said. “When you start looking at accreditation through an ideological lens, it’s just not a healthy dynamic.”
Przypyszny added that the Southern Association of Colleges (SACS), is one example of an accreditor that does not list diversity, equity and inclusion in its standards.
“I don't really think that's an issue that SACS has had strong, or really any standards, in,” Przypyszny noted.
