John Przypyszny Comments on Federal Pressure on College Accreditation With The Chronicle of Higher Education

In an article for The Chronicle of Higher Education, education partner John Przypyszny discussed pressure from the federal government toward Colombia University’s accreditor for alleged antidiscrimination law violations.

While the government does not have unilateral authority to revoke a school’s accreditation, Przypyszny noted, mounting criticism from the federal branch is prompting many universities to reexamine their practices.

However, Przypyszny said it is “unusual” for the Education Department to try and enforce alleged civil-rights violations through accreditation, since accreditors are usually tasked with ensuring that colleges comply with rules related to disbursing financial aid.
