Erica MacDonald Speaks With KSTP About Nonprofit Fraud Case Developments

Partner and former U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Erica MacDonald spoke with KSTP about developments in the massive COVID-related fraud scheme involving a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization, including the defendants requesting to relocate the trial outside Minnesota, arguing that recent media coverage could influence potential jurors.

MacDonald explained she is not surprised by the latest defense motion, but said they bear a difficult burden of proof.

“It’s not whether the juror has ever heard about it, whether the juror has read anything about fraud or anything like that,” MacDonald said. “The question is whether the juror can be fair and impartial in this particular case.”
