Public Agency Considerations in an Era of Engaged Citizenry

Indiana Lawyer

Corporate partner Scott Chinn and government and regulatory associate Brad Boswell coauthored an article for Indiana Lawyer titled “Public Agency Considerations in an Era of Engaged Citizenry,” which discusses ways public agencies can protect board members and help them navigate their approach to public transparency.

Chinn and Boswell note the new and increased scrutiny of board decisions, social media activism and culture wars placed on public agency board members. The authors provide their recommendations and discuss:

  • Public access statutes and the Indiana public access calendar
  • Public transparency items to consider
  • Action items that can be delegated to staff
  • Procedures for public comment at board meetings
  • How to provide a consistent level of public transparency
