Libby Baney Outlines DRUGS Act Outlook With WGN News
In a recent segment, WGN News discussed a proposed bill that would hold social media platforms and websites accountable for the sale of illegal drugs. Government and regulatory affairs partner and senior advisor to the Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP Global) Libby Baney spoke to the news channel about the details of the Domain Reform for Unlawful Drug Sellers (DRUGS) Act.
Baney noted that “95% of internet pharmacies today are operating illegally,” and “there are about 30,000–35,000 active URLs that are peddling pills for profit and putting patients at risk.” When asked what it would take for the bill to pass in Congress, she explained that the bill is likely to be packaged with other must-pass bills. Finally, Baney described potential regulatory efforts to hold these websites accountable.
