Ill. Daily Fantasy Sports Ruling Is A Win For Operators, Players

Patrick Reilly, Kevin DeMaio, Tess Godhardt and Justin Hay co-authored an article for Law360 regarding the Illinois Supreme Court’s ruling that determined daily fantasy sports operators (“DFS”) are not gambling within the meaning of a section of the Illinois Criminal Code.

In their article, “Ill. Daily Fantasy Sports Ruling Is A Win For Operators, Players,” the authors highlight the Supreme Court’s disagreement with a recent New York Appellate Division opinion that concluded that such DFS contests are predominantly games of skill (and not games of chance). They write that the court's opinion is a welcome source of clarity for DFS operators and contestants in Illinois.
