Increase in "Injury to Feelings" Awards in Discrimination Claims

The Vento bands for “injury to feelings” awards in discrimination claims have been increased. The new figures, applicable to claims issued on or after 6 April 2018, are as follows:

  • Lower band, for the least serious cases: £900 to £8,600 (previously £800 to £8,400)
  • Middle band, for serious cases that do not merit an award in the highest band: £8,600 to £25,700 (previously £8,400 to £25,200)
  • Higher band, for the most serious cases: £25,700 to £42,900 (previously £25,200 to £42,000)
  • Exceptional cases: £42,900+ (previously £42,000+)

This guidance is not binding but U.K. Employment Tribunals must have regard to it.
