Faegre Baker Daniels' Client Valero Renewables ‘Ahead of the Curve' in FSMA Compliance

A Faegre Baker Daniels client has gained attention for being “ahead of the curve” in complying with the new rules of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). As detailed in Biofuels Journal, FaegreBD associate Rachael Dettman Spiegel and the food litigation and regulatory team helped Valero Renewables Fuels Co.—one of the largest ethanol producers in the U.S., with 11 plants producing up to 1.3 billion gallons annually—develop FSMA compliance protocols beginning in 2013, when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began releasing its proposed rules for the FSMA.

Thanks to this proactive response, Valero hopes to have all 11 plants fully FSMA compliant by the end of the first quarter of 2016, well ahead of the FDA deadlines for compliance.
