Faegre Baker Daniels Featured as Law Firm of the Month by LawWorks

Faegre Baker Daniels has been selected by England and Wales-based legal pro bono charity LawWorks as its Law Firm of the Month.

In a special feature for the May 2014 issue of the LawWorks newsletter, FaegreBD business litigation counsel Stephen Llewellyn was interviewed about the firm's pro bono involvement.

Llewellyn explained the various ways FaegreBD is involved in pro bono activities both within England and Wales as well as internationally. Home activity includes the firm's support of the award-winning Dalston Pop-Up Shop advice clinic, providing volunteers to help staff and run the resource for those who cannot afford services. Internationally, the firm has been involved in the Africa Advocacy Project, in which nearly 120 FaegreBD lawyers and legal professionals have produced detailed human rights reports in 18 African countries.

"Once you have become properly involved [with pro bono work], you soon realise that, in many cases, if you do not help, the people or organisations in question will simply not have access to legal advice and assistance of any sort," Llewellyn said. "The gaps left by the removal of legal aid are a huge challenge but my faith in the sector is great because it contains some very creative, resourceful and tenacious people who are unfazed by difficult challenges."

LawWorks is the leading legal pro bono charity in England and Wales for solicitors, in-house counsel, mediators and students. Working in partnership, LawWorks identifies needs, brokers casework and connects volunteer lawyers with communities nationwide. LawWorks is the operating name of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group.
