Reminder: Employers Must Use New Form I-9 Beginning May 7

The newly revised Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 goes into effect on May 7, 2013. After that date, prior versions of the Form I-9 should not be used. Employers will be required to use the Form I-9 with the revision date of 03/08/2013 in the lower left corner of the form for all employees hired on May 7 and after. Failure of an employer to use the new Form I-9 could result in civil fines in the event of an audit by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The new two-page Form I-9 includes new fields, new formatting, and expanded completion instructions for the employer and employee. All employers are required to complete a Form I-9 for each employee hired in the United States. For additional information, go to USCIS I-9 Central at www.uscis.gov/I-9central.
