On January 5, 2011, President Obama nominated Republican Terence Flynn to be a member of the National Labor Relations Board. Flynn, who currently serves as chief counsel to Board Member Brian Hayes, acted as chief counsel to former Board Member and Chairman Peter Schaumber from January 2004 through August 2010 and worked as a private practice attorney representing companies and individuals in labor and employment matters before coming to the Board. If confirmed, Flynn would join Hayes (R), Chairwoman Wilma Liebman (D), Member Craig Becker (D) and Member Mark Pearce (D) on the Board and serve a term through August 27, 2015. Thus, although a Republican, Flynn's expected confirmation will not change the Democrat's three-member Board majority.
President Obama also nominated Democrat Lafe Solomon to serve as general counsel for the Board. Solomon has worked at the Board for 38 years in a number of different positions and has been the Board's acting general counsel since June 21, 2010. If confirmed, Solomon would serve a four-year term.
