Form I-9 Extended Beyond June 30 Expiration

On June 26, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that the current version of Form I-9 (Rev. 02/02/09) as outlined on the USCIS Web site—and which employers are required to use as part of the I-9 employment verification process—remains valid beyond the June 30, 2009, expiration date.

Although USCIS has asked the Office of Management and Budget to approve continued use of the current version of Form I-9 (Rev. 02/02/09), this request has not yet been approved. In the interim, the current version of Form I-9 can continue to be used by employers even though it references a June 30 expiration date.

USCIS also announced it will update Form I-9 with the new expiration date when the extension is approved. At that time, employers can either use the Form I-9 with the new revision date or the Form I-9 with the 02/02/09 revision date at the bottom of the form.

Effective April 3, USCIS revised Form I-9 to improve the security of documents being presented during the employment verification process.
