Legislative Updates on Art & Museum Law

Overview

Washington, D.C. of counsel Janet Fries moderated a panel/luncheon program titled, “Legislative Updates on Art & Museum Law,” on Tuesday, June 25. The event was sponsored by the Arts and Cultural Law Committee of the D.C. Bar’s Arts, Entertainment, Media and Sports Law Section and the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA). 

Speakers at the program were Rachelle Browne, Esq., Associate General Counsel for the Smithsonian Institution and Anita Difanis, Director of Government Affairs for the Association of Art Museum Directors. 

The panelists discussed legislative updates in federal and local  laws, including issues regalating to orphan works, immunity from seizure, resale rights, and tax issues including partial gifts.
