Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses

Legal Clinic: Human Resources & Employment Matters

Overview

San Francisco partners Cheryl Orr and Sara Hansen Wilson, and Los Angeles partner Kate Gold, participated in Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses Los Angeles Area Clinic on July 19.

10,000 Small Businesses is a $500 million initiative designed to unlock the economic growth and job-creation potential of 10,000 small businesses across the United States whose annual revenues range from $250,000 to $4 million.

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankenstein and Warren Buffett are both closely involved in the program, which provides access to business education, mentors and networks, and financial capital.  It is based on the broadly held view of leading experts that a combination of education, capital, and support services best addresses the barriers to growth for small businesses.

Cheryl presented to the small business owners on wage and hour topics including proper classification of employees, overtime and meal and rest break obligations.

In the second half of the presentation, Cheryl, Kate and answered the questions of the small business owners relevant to their respective practice areas.

The Goldman attendees and the small business owners were very appreciative.
